The cameras and phones I started with, the kit I use today, and the extras that come along. From a Walkman phone and a Canon PowerShot to Nikon wildlife photography.
My gear
The D7500 is my main body today. Before the Nikon DSLRs, I used a Canon PowerShot SX20 IS.
My current camera for wildlife, zoo visits, and photography days out.
I got this camera in 2012 with the 18–55mm VR kit lens. I do not remember where I bought it. It also came along as my second body on my Copenhagen Zoo trip.
I got the D3300 with the 18–55mm VR II kit lens roughly six or seven years after the D5100. I do not remember the exact purchase date.
I had the SX20 IS in 2010, before my Nikon DSLRs. The earliest photo I still have from it is dated 12 April 2010, just after my latest saved HTC P4350 photo. I do not remember where I got the Canon.
My gear
From the original kit lenses to the telephotos I use for wildlife and zoo visits.
The lens I use when I want the reach of a telephoto with a bright f/2.8 aperture.
Includes the Nikon 70–200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR, JJC memory card case, four SanDisk Extreme PRO 64 GB cards and two Favuit sunhats. The individual item prices are not shown.
Price detailsNow part of my kit: extra reach for wildlife and distant subjects.
The telephoto lens I added after getting the D5100. My old order record puts it on 31 May 2013.
The kit lens that came with my D5100 in 2012, at the beginning of my DSLR photography journey.
The kit lens that came with my D3300. I also take it along for wider shots and urban scenes.
A long lens I tried at Copenhagen Zoo. I found it too soft and shaky for the photographs I wanted, and switched back to the 70–200mm.
My gear
My current phones and video camera, alongside the earlier phones that started my photography history.
One of the iPhones I own, alongside the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
Part of my phone kit, alongside the iPhone 13 Pro.
Also part of my phone kit. It appears in my Amazon order history alongside the camera equipment.
I bought my Canon LEGRIA HF G70 from Proshop in March 2024. It is the video camera I packed for my full day at Copenhagen Zoo, alongside the Nikon bodies and lenses.
The mobile phone I started taking pictures with around 2008, before moving through the HTC P4350 and Canon PowerShot SX20 IS.
One of the phones I used before the Canon. The latest photo I still have from the HTC P4350 is dated 9 April 2010. My earliest saved Canon SX20 IS photo follows on 12 April.
My gear
The batteries, cards, bag and other things around the cameras.
A camera GPS receiver in my kit.
A pair of spare EN-EL15c batteries.
An extra-large backpack with room for a 17-inch laptop.
A set of four elastic straps with carabiner hooks.

How it grew
The dates I remember, the photographs I kept, and the details my order history helped fill in.
Around 2008
My first photography steps were with a Sony Ericsson Walkman W810i.
9 April 2010
The latest photo I still have from my HTC P4350 is dated 9 April 2010. Before the Canon, my photography was on mobile phones.
12 April 2010
My earliest saved Canon PowerShot SX20 IS photo is dated 12 April 2010, three days after the latest HTC photo I have. Those surviving pictures place the shift around this time. I do not remember where I got the Canon; these are photo dates, and its purchase date is unknown.
2012
I got the D5100 with an 18–55mm VR kit lens. I no longer remember where I bought it.
31 May 2013
My order record confirms when I ordered the AF-S DX 55–300mm f/4.5–5.6G ED VR.
Around 2018–2019
Roughly six or seven years after the D5100, I got a D3300 with the 18–55mm VR II lens. This date is approximate.

I bought my Canon LEGRIA HF G70 from Proshop. The invoice is dated 8 March 2024.
August 2024
I ordered the D7500 from Foto/C on 10 August. The invoice is dated 15 August. It is now my main camera.
September–October 2024
I ordered the Lightdow 420–800mm on 30 September, then the Nikon 70–200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR on 21 October. The Nikon became the lens I kept reaching for.
July–August 2025
I ordered the Nikon 200–500mm f/5.6E ED VR from Foto/C on 26 July. Its invoice is dated 1 August. It added more reach to my wildlife kit.
Beyond the equipment
The cameras are one part of it. Animals, days out, and the moments that stay with me are what keep me taking pictures.
